Mahalo Joey for 37 years of support!

Special Olympics East Hawaii presented UH Hilo baseball coach a special plaque and decked him with leis at the baseball clinic on April 27. This was a small thank you for volunteering and supporting the athletes and program for the past 37 years. Happy retirement, Joey!

Special Olympics East & West Hawaii Area Track & Field Competition-April 20, 2013 at Keaau High School

Participating in the Area track & field competition were 104 participants with 148 volunteers who made our competition possible. Mahalo to: Iris McGuire, Athletic Director of Keaau High School, Paul Lee of Keaau High School, Labor Alliance( for coming at 6:00am to help set up all the tents, tables, chairs & signage), Ilau, Sherry & Kristie Fox, Mayor Billy Kenoi's representative, Ilihia Gionson, Chief Kubojiri's representative, Lt. John Briski, Officer Joseph Botelho Jr. (for presenting awards our athletes), County Councilman Greggor Ilagan, Keaau Fire Dept., Boy Scouts Troop 42 of  Mt. View Elementary School, Hilo High School Leo and Key clubs, Waiakea High School Key Club, Keaau High School GT/PE class, University of Hawaii at Hilo Adapted PE class, Care Resource Hawaii, HI Youth Challenge Academy, Hilo High School athletics, HSTA, Bayada, many individual community volunteers and our key games officials, Dina Pascua, Leabert Pascua, Calvin Uchida, Kimie Ching, Suzy Lauer, Patricia Shillingford, Alan Walker, Ronda Nicholson, Cheryl Crabtree, Kalei Chang, Dave Baldwin, Lisa Pana, Noe Kapuni-Reynolds, Percy Gomez, Jennifer Holani, Mayda Iyechad and Darren Horio.
            Thank you for making our area track & field competition a huge success!

A special thanks goes out to the many First Hawaiian Bank's Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Runners who ran or walked the 2 1/2 mile route to start our day's events! Some of the participants represented Hawaii County Police Department, First Hawaiian Bank, Keaau High School Football Team, Hawaii Air National Guard, Hawaii Army National Guard, community runners and so many individuals who made our athletes feel so special as you supported their efforts! Thank  you to Officers Jason Grouns, Matt Kaaihue and Lt. Darren Horio for their help to organize the Torch Run and to promote the sale of our Torch Run shirts, which greatly benefits our program here.
